ELITE LEAGUE LATEST...
COVENTRY will celebrate their Elite League title win with a homecoming meeting at Brandon this Friday, when they take on fierce rivals Wolverhampton.
Promoter Colin Pratt said: "We want to set the record straight after the closest of decisions robbed us of a replay against them in the Knockout Cup recently, and we're grateful they have accepted the invitation to return because there is always some great speedway when we race each other.
"It's a celebration night where we salute the magnificent achievements of our team but we also wanted to put on a fully competitive meeting, and there's no doubt we will have just that. It's a night that everyone will be able to enjoy."
EASTBOURNE co-promoter Mike Bellerby was delighted with his riders' efforts in the KO Cup semi-final win over Wolverhampton - and says the Eagles' current form means they will approach the Final in high spirits.
Bellerby said: "Every one of the team knew the job they had to do and we are most proud of each and every one of them in making this another memorable night for Eastbourne Speedway and everyone of the fans who travelled with us.
"Whoever we face in the Final, be it Peterborough, be it Poole, they’ve seen just what we are capable of, Wolverhampton had a taste of that and I would say beware, it might just be your turn next."
IPSWICH welcome the USA Touring Team to Foxhall on Thursday - and director of speedway Chris Louis says he will be taking a keen interest in events.
Louis said: "There are a number of riders taking part in this meeting that I am interested in. This is a golden opportunity to evaluate some new names and see how they get on with the Foxhall circuit."
LAKESIDE'S season finale is taking shape as the club stage the London Riders' Championship at Purfleet on Friday, preceded by a Young Hammers v USA Touring Team fixture.
Latest riders to confirm their attendance are Hammers asset Joonas Kylmakorpi, who will wear the colours of the Romford Bombers, and his Eastbourne team-mate Cameron Woodward, who will represent the White City Rebels.
Hammers current riders Kauko Nieminen, Peter Ljung and Stuart Robson will represent Lakeside, the Hackney Hawks and West Ham respectively.
PETERBOROUGH boss Trevor Swales insists the Panthers' KO Cup chances are not over - despite a 50-43 defeat in the first leg of their semi-final against Poole.
Swales said: "It’s going to be a massive hill to climb, but we can do it. Coventry went and won by 10 down there so they’ve shown that it is more than possible.
"We just need to get ourselves a good start and hope that they have a few problems. It’s going to be hard, but it’s do-able."
POOLE promoter Matt Ford praised his riders for their response to the club's Elite League Grand Final disappointment - as they put themselves in the driving seat for a Cup Final place with an away win at Peterborough.
Ford said: "When you look at performances such as these then you realise just how privileged we are at Poole with this side. They all did their job tonight, they were hungry to show everyone that despite the immense disappointment of not being league champions they are still arguably the best in the Elite.
"Let's hope we get another good backing on Wednesday and show these lads just how highly we regard them."
WOLVERHAMPTON star Nicolai Klindt will be forced to miss the club's showpiece Banks's Olympique individual next Monday as he needs an operation to correct a shoulder injury.
Promoter Chris Van Straaten said: "It’s been causing Nicolai some problems for a while and he needs it sorting out. So we can confirm he will be missing from our meeting at Coventry on Friday and the Olympique, but he will be back over here for our end of season party on October 22.
"You can tell it has affected his performance on the bike at times this season and the operation is one which has developed into quite a common one for riders."
