PREMIER LEAGUE LATEST...
BERWICK wrap up their season on Saturday with a high-class field invited for the Bordernapolis - including 21-year-old Polish newcomer Borys Miturski.
Bandits boss Ian Rae said: "We have a good record of attracting Poles to Berwick. Stan Burza and the Rempala brothers come to mind from recent seasons – now here comes Borys, and it seems his Polish club Czestochowa are very excited about his coming over here, as they are making very big mentions of his trip on their website!"
EDINBURGH will make their seventh appearance in the KO Cup Final when they face Newcastle at home on Friday in what will be the final meeting of the 2010 season at Armadale.
Monarchs director Mike Hunter said: "Both teams have injury problems and much will depend on how the sides cover for their absentees."
KING'S Lynn aim to move into the top half of the Premier League table when they race their final team fixture of the season against Newcastle on Wednesday.
Promoter Buster Chapman said: "Newcastle really are the form team of the moment having just qualified for the KOC Final as well as the Promotion Play Off Final, but on the flip side this means we have a lot to ride for and a win would guarantee the club finishes the season on a high."
NEWCASTLE boss George English heaped praise on guest Stuart Robson whose performance against Sheffield helped the Diamonds into the promotion/relegation race-off against Ipswich.
English said: "Stuart was a magnificent replacement for the injured Lemo (Mark Lemon), and to bounce back after to that heavy fall in Heat 7 shows that they breed speedway riders tough in the North East."
NEWPORT'S senior riders will compete for the final time this season in the Prince of Wales Trophy at Queensway Meadows on Friday.
Wasps star Craig Watson said: "It is a chance for the team which has gelled so well and really turned the season around to say goodbye to our loyal fans. Plus a rare chance for us to race against each other, it should be interesting!"
RYE House skipper Chris Neath says the Rockets are well-equipped to finish the season on a high, whether they face Workington or Scunthorpe in the Young Shield Final.
Neath said: "We definitely won’t be lacking in the determination stakes for sure. We need a trophy this year. We started the season off so well and, yes, we did have a dip in the middle, but it would be really disappointing if we finish the season without something to show for our efforts."
SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey remains optimistic that a 61-35 first leg deficit against Workington in the semi-finals of the Young Shield can be overcome - after rain wrecked the return fixture on Monday with the Scorpions 22-8 up at the time!
Godfrey said: "Let's hope the weather is kind to us on Friday and we can get a big crowd in to cheer us on. Twenty-six points is a lot but, with the odd exception, we have been pretty good round our own track this year."
SHEFFIELD will stage an end-of-season party for riders and supporters at Owlerton on Thursday, with admission free.
Co-promoter David Hoggart said: "The boys will be there to say their farewell speeches and we will be showing some footage from the season which has just ended. It’s a good chance for supporters to come along, get autographs and have their picture taken with our riders before we all head off for the winter break."
WORKINGTON have confirmed they will stage their home leg of the Young Shield Final on Saturday - if they can defend their 26-point lead at Scunthorpe in the re-staged semi-final 24 hours earlier!
Comets chief Ian Thomas said: "Our supporters will have to watch events on Friday to see what happens and whether we have a match at Derwent Park on Saturday night or not. It isn’t ideal but that’s what we have to try and cope with at this stage of the season.”
